Offer prizes and they will blog

Now I know as well as anyone how running a contest and offering a too-tempting prize can do to promote your site. This blog was born in a contest after all. An seocontest, however, is probably the most extreme type of linkbait, but there are less costly ways of holding a contest.

These contests generally entail offering a prize for writing a post about your blog, including a link or two for specific keywords. Though some object to these kinds of contests, I think they are a great idea for getting links to your site and getting the word out about your site. Besides that, the very fact that you are hosting a contest creates a buzz around your blog.

Here are a few contests that I have found that you can participate in as a blogger:

Win Free Business Books

Review me & Win a Palm Pilot

I think it might be fun to have a contest like this. I would enjoy sending away the prize with one of my blank Scrabble note cards saying: Congrats on winning! :-) What prize would I offer though?

I love the contests. That’s one of the reasons I started Redhead Rants, that and I had to release some pent up writing energy. LOL

Another thing about the writing aspect of it is that each and every post written can be attributed to a person’s writing porfolio. Anyway, that’s how I look at it. LOL

Love the blog, hon. It’s cool.

Thanks!

I love the contests too… not just because I get to indulge in my absolute love for “free stuff”, but because it adds a bit of excitement to blogging - why go to the casino when I can blog?

I have been taking a break from writing for a few years - and you are so correct about pent up writing energy - it’s been exploding out of me for two months now.

It’s amazing how our inner writers will beat their way out if we don’t allow them their freedom. LOL
