Matt Cutts Suggests the SEO Title Tag Plugin for Wordpress
At WordCamp 2007, suggested the SEO Title Tag plug-in for Wordpress and I have added this plug-in to this blog. It allows for mass editing of title tags for pages, categories, and posts.
Search engines place a great deal of importance on title tags, and while you want your post titles to attract readers, it is optimal to consider Google when creating SEO title tags.
Titles to Attract Readers & Titles Tags for Search Engines
Unfortunately people do not excited about keywords. That is why an intriguing post title is required to get them to read, and to get them to link. Take this post, and what a coincidence it’s about title tags, from Cornwall SEO.
But how many people will search hairy golf ball? And then what are the odds that those people want to read an SEO blog? Well, that is why your post title tags need to have “their balls shaved” so to say. I would not suggest of course stuffing these with keywords, because you of course still want people to click on the results in the search engine.

As I have only had my Wordpress blog for a few weeks, I am still finding out about all the wonders of plugins. Picking them out is kind of like shopping. :)

Sounds great! I already have it installed, but I always forget to add the tags to my posts and categories, and now I have a lot of posts piled up waiting to be “titled”.

Yeah - it seems like a really important plugin to be taking advantage of. I am like a kid with a new toy! :)

I’ve been meaning to get more involved with this plugin. Guess I should bump it up the list of things to do. Btw, HighRankings is an awesome resources, as I’m sure you already know. I used to frequent it a lot a few years back, but as my professional skills changed, so did my need to stay involved. Looks like I may be turning to them in the near future anyway. :)

Mike… Okay now how do I remove myself from the Top Commenters? I am up there 2x. :P

If I may jump in on that one — I don’t have a solution, but it appears you are experiencing the same thing I did when I used a plugin for that. I couldn’t figure out a way to exclude myself, so I just stopped using it all together. If you or anyone can find a way to do that, then I’m all ears. :)

If you’re using the same top commenters plugin that I am…
… you have to go to plugin editor in your wordpress backend, after “filter_users” you have to add “administrator”. That’s what I did anyway.

Yep just go to edit plugin and put in the usernames that you want to filter out :)
I’m almost at 100 too! I want a cookie or something :D

Here’s how mine looks:
“filter_users” => “Mike”, //commma seperated list of users (”nate,jeff,etc”).
You could probably also use Administrator, Admin, and so on.
