The Best Things In Life Are Pink: From Danielle’s Childhood

Okay, besides my Pink Internet Marketing blog, there are a lot of great things that come in pink. And here are some great things from my childhood that came in pink.

Pretty in PinkPretty in Pink Movie

Rich boy meets poor girl. Rich boy and poor girl fall in love and battle adversity. A great story that proves that love conquers even the biggest barriers - including the disapproval of rich friends. Great 80s clothes and great 80s dialog. And you have to love Ducky. :D

BarbapapasBarbapapa

I love the Barbapapas - and especially Barbapapa who is the “dad” or leader of the group of funny lumpy things. It’s a French thing. Barbapapa is the word for cotton candy in French BTW. ;)

The Alberta Wild Rose

I was born in Alberta and one of my favourite flowers is the Wild Rose, our provincial flower. The petals are edible and they sort of taste like apples but with a flowery taste. Apparently according to that link, if you wrap some petals around a stick of butter and leave it sit then put it on your cornbread muffins it is really good. As a girl we would pick and eat the petals (don’t tell though, that is apparently not allowed as it is the provincial flower).

Freshen Up GumBest Gum Ever - Freshen Up

Remember this gum? There is a store in town where I can buy it. I will go buy a small paper bag full of this gum. It squirts juice in your mouth when you chew it. I am glad that they still produce this gum that I have enjoyed for so many years.

PoochiePoo

I miss you Poochie. Whenever I think about Poochie I giggle, then my eyes well up with tears as I think about how I don’t get to see Poochie anymore. I wish that Poochie had been part of that big “80s retro toy phase” that went by. But alas… Poochie missed the boat to revival.

Jem DollJem

Glamour and glitter, fashion and fame. Jem rocks, even though I guess I have always been more of a Misfit. I still have some random Jem merchandise, I will likely hold onto it. Some pretty good books, it’s not literature by any means but it gives me a little dose of Jem here and there. She was a kindly philanthropist by day, and rock star by night. What life!

I think I still have a few Barbapapa books. I love them. I loved the cross-section pictures of their houses and all the things in them. They were so weird.

Danielle, you forgot to mention http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_mKG_S1bTU&mode=related&search=
(translation error there = french “rose”, as colour. mean pink
:-) )

(original, old version, without translation, performed by Edith Piaf - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-sUzR71wpQ&mode=related&search= )

I remember the Barbapapa’s TV show but I thought it was a German production, I remember the “Transtel” logo at the end of each episode.
I also remember “Jem” I liked Misfits but I had a confussion with them ’cause I thought they were the legendary dark punk band “The Misfits”, but I realized that the Jem’s Misfits was a girls band that looks like the rock band “Twisted Sisters” and the Jem’s band looks like the Belinda Carlisle’s band but singing like Debbie Gibson. My pink hero is “The Pink Panther” :D

I can’t believe I jumped on here to quickly say that I can’t believe you mentioned the Barbapapas… except everyone apparently remembers them!!! My wife loves them and I’m dying to find some books for her, but like you said they’re all either in French or Japanese. Sigh. One day…

But how could you forget the one and only Pink Floyd!?!?!
