SEO for facebook applications
Today, that they are opening up the and the Application about pages to search engines, which means greater distribution and visibility. Users who are not logged in will now be able to view the information relating to facebook applications.
This has two main consequences:
- This means that applications have one more way to succeed (or one more way to fail). will now want to think about their keyword count, links to their application about pages, such as this link to Matt Huggins application: the .
- Another way for companies to use facebook to extend their corporate branding - not only can you create a facebook application, but you can promote this application off facebook. For example, say you have a company site and you want to link to your application. This means that users no longer need to be logged in to view the app your are offering. Which is sometimes too much of a hassle. And your application can now be viewed in search engines. Imagine the power of the facebook domain name. Now use it to your SEO advantage.
Great news for a chilly windy fall afternoon. It was inevitable that this should occur, as facebook is continually pursuing new ways to help facebook application developers, and I suspected from some comments made at facebookcamptoronto2 that this was to occur.

Dani Pink, always on the forefront of relevant technological news! Thanks for the heads up on this, I coincidentally used PayPerPost to get some blogs to write about my app yesterday with links leading to my about page. And many, many thanks for including a link to my application here too! :D

Thanks, Danielle. I tried to make it easy to use, and I have a few ideas for improvements already that I’m hoping to get to very soon.
Also, I had 85+ users in the first 24 hours of creating it, and I’m now up to exactly 200 users. It’s not nearly as many users as a lot of apps out there, but I’m happy that I actually made something that it seems people are using! :)

Once people start noticing how clean and useable yours is above others, they will jump on the bandwagon too. :)
